Dr. Johnson was born and raised in Greenville, the son of an ophthalmologist who provided an early introduction to a fantastic specialty that allows for protecting, improving, and restoring vision for patients. Following an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Clemson University’s Calhoun Honors College, Dr. Johnson attended the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, earning his doctorate of medicine. Dr. Johnson completed his general surgery internship and ophthalmology residency in Charleston with the MUSC Department of Surgery and the Storm Eye Institute, respectively. He has completed two fellowships, the first in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City and the second in medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases at the Wolfe Eye Clinic in Des Moines, IA, with a two-year time in practice in Tifton, GA between these fellowships.
Dr. Johnson is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His professional passions include providing exemplary care for patients, improving delivery and access to care, clinical research, and collaboration with others to advance ophthalmic care.
Dr. Johnson has many interests outside of work, but the most important are his faith and his family!
